What’s in Your T1D Medical Bag? Must-Have Supplies to Always Keep on Hand

Having a well-stocked medical bag is a non-negotiable for anyone managing Type 1 Diabetes. Whether you’re heading to school, work, practice, or a weekend getaway, being prepared can make all the difference in managing highs, lows, and everything in between.

Here’s what we recommend packing in your T1D go-bag:
Glucose meter (with test strips and lancet)
✅ Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) supplies, if applicable
Diabetes organizer case (great for all the supplies)
✅ Insulin pens or pump supplies (plus backup pens or syringes if you’re pumping)
Frio bag (keep insulin cool especially in the heat)
Alcohol wipes
Hand Sanitizer
✅ Low snacks (glucose tabs, juice box, fruit snacks, Smarties)
✅ Longer-acting snacks (granola bars or peanut butter crackers)
Reusable bags for snacks and other items
✅ Glucagon or Baqsimi for severe lows
Small sharps container or needle disposal method
✅ Spare batteries or charging cable/pack for devices
Skin Tac for sensor/pod reapplication
✅ Extra stickers to put on top of devices if needed
Ketone test strips

Packing all of this doesn’t have to mean carrying a huge bag—many families use compact medical organizers, repurposed makeup cases, or small backpacks.

We use the diabetes organizer and keep most of the above supplies inside that kit. Watch our YouTube video about our day to day medical bag.

Don’t forget to label your bags! Visit our medical ID page for more information and product choices.
