15 GRAMS OF CARBS

  • ½ cup of ice cream
  • ½ glazed doughnut
  • 2 inch square brownie
  • ½ cup chocolate milk
  • 1 snickers fun size
  • ½ small frosted cupcake
  • 2 Oreo cookies
  • 5 chocolate Hershey kisses
  • ¼ cup sherbet
  • ½ cup Lucky Charms

Desserts and sugary treats have extra calories and sugar but very few nutrients. Sweet treats can raise blood sugar levels very quickly and can be difficult to manage. As a general recommendation: less is better.

Tips to limit sweet treats:

  • Sweets should be saved for special occasions
  • Serve sweets in small bowls or offer bite-size portions
  • Have sweet treats during meal time to eliminate spike in blood sugar
